3 Days Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga Desert

Day 1: Marrakech – Aït Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley

Morning Departure from Marrakech via Tizi n’Tichka Pass

We begin our desert tour with an early morning departure from Marrakech, heading south through the High Atlas Mountains. Our scenic drive takes us along the winding road of the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, perched at 2,260 meters above sea level. The views are simply breathtaking—Berber villages carved into the hillsides, steep valleys, and snow-capped peaks create a captivating start to the journey.

Visit Aït Benhaddou – Morocco’s Iconic Kasbah

Our first major stop is at the Aït Benhaddou Kasbah, a fortified village that has earned UNESCO World Heritage status. Famous for its appearances in films such as Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, and Game of Thrones, this ancient mud-brick village offers a glimpse into Morocco’s historic caravan trade routes. Wander through its labyrinth of alleys, climb to the summit for panoramic views, and soak in centuries of history.

Lunch and Ouarzazate Exploration

After lunch, we head to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Morocco.” Here you’ll have the opportunity to explore Atlas Studios or the impressive Kasbah of Taourirt, both steeped in cinematic and historical value.

Dades Valley – The Road of a Thousand Kasbahs

We continue through the Skoura Oasis and the Valley of Roses, arriving at the Dades Valley, known for its dramatic rock formations and kasbahs. Enjoy dinner and overnight in a charming riad or hotel overlooking the majestic valley.

Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Merzouga – Sahara Camel Trek

Drive to Todra Gorges

After breakfast, we leave Dades Valley and journey east to the Todra Gorges—one of Morocco’s most spectacular canyons. Towering cliffs rise 300 meters on either side, forming a narrow corridor that’s a paradise for hikers and photographers. Stroll along the riverbed and take in the cool, crisp mountain air.

Desert Road to Merzouga via Erfoud and Rissani

Continuing south, we pass through Erfoud, known for its fossil and marble workshops, and Rissani, a historic town famous for its local souks and ties to the Alaouite dynasty. This route marks the start of the Sahara region, and you’ll feel the landscape shifting from rocky plateaus to golden dunes.

Camel Trek into the Erg Chebbi Dunes

Arriving in Merzouga, we meet our camel caravan for an enchanting ride into the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes. These are among the tallest sand dunes in Morocco, reaching heights of over 150 meters. As the sun sets, casting fiery hues across the sands, you’ll arrive at your Berber-style desert camp.

Overnight in Luxury Desert Camp

Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner under the stars, followed by an evening of Berber drumming, songs, and storytelling around the campfire. The night sky in the Sahara is a breathtaking canvas of stars, perfect for stargazing and soaking in the tranquility of the desert.

Day 3: Merzouga – Alnif – Nkob – Ouarzazate – Marrakech

Sunrise Over the Dunes and Return Ride

Wake up early to witness a magical sunrise over the dunes—a moment that stays etched in memory. After breakfast, we ride camels back to Merzouga where our driver awaits.

Journey Back through the Draa Valley and Anti-Atlas Mountains

The return journey takes us through the Draa Valley, lined with thousands of palm trees and fortified ksour (villages), and through the rocky landscapes of the Anti-Atlas Mountains. The road passes through Alnif, Nkob, and Agdz, each offering glimpses into traditional Berber life.

Stop in Ouarzazate and Arrival in Marrakech

We pause again in Ouarzazate for a final break before crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass back to Marrakech. Arrival is expected in the early evening, marking the end of an incredible 3-day desert tour filled with unforgettable moments and breathtaking scenery.
